Motivation for Joining RFP and Influence on Financial Planning
“My primary motivation for joining the Registered Financial Planner (RFP) program was to build credibility in financial education. Even before taking the RFP, I was already informally teaching and sharing about money — drawing from my personal experiences, mistakes, and lessons learned — with the sincere intention of helping other Filipinos make better financial decisions.
I did not come from a wealthy family, and growing up, I was not taught the right financial mindset or habits. Early in my career, I made several wrong financial decisions, and I also witnessed people in my circle make major financial mistakes that led to long-term financial stress. These experiences gave me a heart to share what I was learning, especially with young Filipinos, so they could start earlier and avoid the same costly errors.
As my passion for financial literacy grew, I recognized the responsibility of teaching others correctly and ethically. I took the RFP program to strengthen my foundation, validate what I was sharing, and ensure that my guidance is grounded in sound financial planning principles — not opinions or trial-and-error alone. Personal development was an important part of the journey, but credibility and responsibility were the driving reasons.
The RFP program influenced my approach to financial planning by giving structure to my experiences — shifting me from intuitive decisions to disciplined, goal-based, and long-term planning.”
How RFP Improved Investment and Wealth Building Decisions
“Becoming an RFP significantly improved how I manage my own investment portfolio. I now make decisions based on clear goals, time horizon, and risk tolerance, rather than emotions or short-term market movements.
The program reinforced the importance of asset allocation, diversification, and consistency. It helped me remain disciplined during market volatility and avoid chasing opportunities that do not align with my long-term financial objectives.
RFP also had an indirect impact on my business. The principles I learned helped me manage cash flow more effectively, evaluate opportunities more clearly, and make better day-to-day and high-impact financial decisions. Instead of relying on instinct alone, I now approach business finances with structure, foresight, and intentionality.
More broadly, RFP sharpened my overall money decision-making — giving me a clearer framework for evaluating trade-offs and making choices that support sustainable wealth building.”
Most Valuable Lesson From RFP and Personal Application
“The most valuable lesson I learned from the RFP program is the time value of money. It clarified how time, consistency, and compounding are far more powerful than income level or market timing.
This lesson reshaped my financial behavior. I became more patient, more disciplined, and more intentional with every financial decision. Instead of focusing on short-term results, I now prioritize long-term strategies that allow time to work in my favor — bringing greater confidence and stability to my financial journey.”
Why I Recommend RFP and How It Shapes Financial Journeys
“Yes, I strongly recommend the RFP certification — especially to those who are already sharing financial knowledge or aspire to help others.
RFP provides the credibility, structure, and ethical framework needed to teach financial literacy responsibly. It helps individuals understand the time value of money, manage risk properly, and align financial decisions with long-term life goals.
The certification also strengthened my advocacy through the Alpha Leaders & Builders (ALB) community, an organization I founded as a platform for financial education and leadership development. I position financial literacy as an expression of self-leadership — because how we manage money reflects discipline, accountability, and long-term thinking.
RFP is not just a certification; it is a commitment to learning, responsibility, and empowering others through sound financial principles.”
